I know, I know, I know. The first quarter technically ended in March. Still, if you haven't already done an assessment of where your finances are at this point, a week after tax time is probably as good as any.
So take a look at your money right now: how are you doing on saving? Have you built up more reserve savings or are you depleting it because of job loss? Are you sticking to a budget? What are your main financial goals for this year and how far are you toward achieving them?

Hmmm...They're not where I'd like them to be. I was out of work for 2 months at the end of last year, and that combined with the expensive Christmas holidays adn some family emergencies, set me off track. I've saved a little, but haven't paid off my car yet, so I'm actually looking into picking up some side work to catch up. Im formally getting my consulting business off the ground by July 1, but I've already started soliciting projects. I can't seem to save enough money, so I better make more of it, right? lol.
I'm consistent with my savings although I'm not saving as much as I would like ideally (who ever does? lol). I have not been a victim to a reduction in workforce but I have made certain attempts to mitigate costs. I recently renegotiated my cable bill with Comcast and got $20.24 knocked off per month which will be over $240 in a year. I make it a point to go home for lunch...i guess I am fortunate that my office is a 7-10 minute drive from home. I've increased my 401(k) contributions by 2 percent.
The reality is is that even though I am still doing what I can to save, I am also realtistic and know that I like to have fun and go out. I'm still young. So I still do dinners once in a while and I still buy my blu-ray movies, once in a while and I still cop my Xbox 360 games....once every 4-5 months. lol. I'm not overboard with my "wants" and I think that's okay as well.
If I was extremely frugal in my spending and cut out the "fun" activities, I'm sure I could save an extra $45-$75/month. I dunno, life's too short and I don't want this recession or anyone else to take away my sanity or mediums for fun and enjoyment.
All in all, I think i'm doing okay. Thank God.
